The ban imposed on apples imported from the US has been lifted.
A communique issued by the Ministry of Health states that permission has been granted to release stocks of apples imported to the market, except for four varieties.
The four varieties of apples, the sale of which has been prohibited in Sri Lanka, are apples produced in California, Caramel Apples , Granny Smith and Gala apples produced in the US.
The ban was imposed on imported apples from the US based on an announcement made by the US of a possible bacteria infection in its apples.
